When choosing a new door it's easy to overlook the fact that, in design terms, a door can be just as visually appealing as an expensive piece of furniture. Clearly the functionality of a door is paramount to any homeowner because if it fails to open or shut properly it's about as much use as the proverbial chocolate fireguard. But as there is so much choice on the market nowadays practical considerations do not have to be the be-all and end-all.
There are numerous rites of passage in life: graduation, passing your driving test or getting married, for instance. I dare say that the biggest, most stressful thing you can do is buy a house. My brother has just taken this exciting/foolish (delete as appropriate) step, and while it isn't a complete fixer-upper, it does require some fairly extensive work to make it just so vis-à-vis the design pretensions of my brother and sister-in-law.
